AR Rahman in Concert and Weekend Movies

I was trying to find a video of Malalai Joya on youtube and ended up watching a few videos of AR Rahman Live in Concert in US…back in 2005. Why do musicians I love always go to the US? Why don’t they come to the UK? 😥

AR did tour the UK once, way back in 2004 and we were lucky to get a few tickets and what a show it was!!!! Rocking!!! I was jumping, dancing, singing…even thinking about it now gives me goosebumps.

If you are reading this post Rahman (:D) please please plzzzz come to the UK and let the show last for atleast 8 hrs….5 is wayyy tooo shorttt!!! Phuullleezzzzzzz!!!!!! 😳

SPB is superb! He sings with such ease. His voice is like honey. Love Him Love Him Love Him.

Weekend Movies:

I don’t understand a single word of tamil…but what the hell…it’s got Kamal Hassan in it…that too in 10 diff roles 😀

Not very excited about Mere Baap Pehle Aap…watching it only for Paresh Rawal. Some what excited about Gone Baby Gone and definately excited about The Incredible Hulk 😀

I still have to write my review for Mongol and all these other movies soon 🙄 I shall pick my favourite from the lot.

Oh yea..apart from watching movies…I also have to pack! Just Fantastic! 😡

Two Movies, A Pizza and More Packing

Hola! my dear readers. I am back after a hiatus. My last post was about 10 days ago and here is a pictorial representation of what I was upto….

Never judge a movie by its promos..that is what I sadly but thankfully learnt after after sitting through the two movies. Sad to say that Harold and Kumar did not meet my expectations. I did not watch the previous H&K movies….otherwise I’d have definately skipped this one. American Pie is much more funnier. Harold and Kumar is a ‘gross’er version of American Pie. It is funny at times but the rest of the movie will make you wonder why Kal Penn, after his brilliant performance in The Namesake signed up for this disgusting movie!

Superhero Movie isn’t great either. S infact slept after the first half ROFL! Don’t go by the cast. Yes….it has Leslie Nielsen in it…but for only 15 mins 😛 Since it is a spin off of Spider Man – 1, you know what’s will happen next (except that the super hero here is not bit by a spider but by a dragon fly) with some of the characters of X-Men and Batman ‘thrown’ in here and there.

I am not going to elaborate on the stories ‘cuz there isn’t one. Don’t waste your money by going to the theatres. Just rent a DVD once they are out or even better….watch then online without spending a penny.

Harold and Kumar :1.5/5

Super Hero Movie: 2/5

One of the movies’ I am desperate to watch this week is Mongol…the story of the rise to power of Genghis Khan. The movie was also nominated for an oscar in the Foreign Film Category. Personally, I love epics….I am crazy about anything to do with history. I loved Troy, King Arthur, some of the Jane Austen movies and lots more…including our very own Pathala Bhairavi and Maya Bazaar. I can watch these movies a 100 times and still not be fed up. Everything about this genre of movies is so magical. It feels like you’ve been transported to a different era altogether.

Mangol is like the ‘tiramisu’ of all these movies. It is not ficitional..it is about a person who lived…it is about a person I read and heard alot…so it will be fantastic if I can put faces to the character I have made in my head.

Sarkar Raj is out aswell but I am not terribly excited about the movie. I’ll give it a miss today. Haven’t read great reviews for it.

Packing is going at a snail’s pace now. Had alot of stuff cleared out over the weekend. The To Let sign has gone up infront of our property….and grim reminder that there aren’t many days left but I am in no hurry 😀 I always leave things till the last minute anyway 😉

Njoy! Review coming up soon 🙂

Movies this Weekend

I love weekends…..’cuz that’s when S and I are out and about without a care in the world…watching movies, eating out etc etc. I am especially excited about today. I will be watching Sex and the CityHarold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo Bay 😀 and then Sex and the City. Being a lady, I know most of you would expect me to watch Sex and the City first…but Harold and Kumar seems to be hillarious and I think Kal Penn is fantastic. Was watching House yesterday and I am soo glad it has Kal Penn. He is the ‘funny bone’ of the show…not that he doesn’t involve in serious talk (medical stuff)…otherwise he wouldn’t have been an intern with House…which means he wouldn’t have been in the show…welll nyways…I am just glad he is there. It is nice to see an Indian American actor getting such a good role…..and not one of the stereotypical one…if you know what I mean.

Coming to Sex and the City. Frankly, I was never a great fan of the show. My life does not revolve just around men, clothes and looking good. A real woman’s life never does. I love the clothes…I love the way they dress up and all…but it stops there. Yes…I do understand that it’s tough to be single after a certain age 😛 …but that doesn’t mean you sleep with every other guy and expect your ‘Prince Charming’ to be one of them.

Anyways, I shall write the reviews for both the movies very soon 🙂 Have a great weekend 😀

Song of the Day :)

Our current Fav!!! and Ileana looks pretty for a change 😛 I personally feel DSP (Devi Sri Prasad) is one of the talented music directors our film industry has.

Watched Jalsa over the weekend. It was OK. Comedy was good…but couldn’t bear PK’s over acting. Why can’t he just act and not over act? HUH! I was also glad that the dubbing artists spoke telugu…and not ‘Vankaratinkari Telugu’. Correct me if I am wrong… but I think the girl who dubbed for Ileana was Colours Swathi….not that I care! Some of the dubbing artists are sooo badd….nangi nangi ga maatladatharu (If anyone can translate the word ‘nangi’ for me into english…please let me know 😀 Njoy!

Movie Review – Iron Man

Loved It! Loved It! Loved It!

One of the Robert Downey Jr’s dialogue in the movie goes like this..’There is an assumption that I am a Super Hero…I am just not the Super Hero type’…and that is what I exactly thought before I went in to watch the movie…Robert Downey and a super hero….hmmm??!?!

I was skeptical. I remember Downey from movies like Friends and Lovers and Only You…and the most recent being Gothika where he plays the role of a middle aged doc. According to IdliDosa’s rule book…he did not have the chrisma to be a super hero…but I was in for a shock!!! He suits the role perfectly..better than the kiddo Tobey Mcguire as Spider man.

Downey is such a natural…he potrays the role of Iron Man with such ease. From being the head of a weapons manufacturing company (Tony Stark) to Iron Man…resovled to end violence his weapons are creating in Afghanistan and from going into the wrong hands….he blends into both the roles effortlessly. His sense of humour…his quick & intelligent single liners….the way he flirts with women…..he is being himself and not trying to put on an act for the camera! No..I am not exaggerating…you have to go watch the movie.

I will not elaborate on the story ‘cuz you will find innumerable reviews everywhere but what I will say is this…. Downey Jr is simply FAB in the movie….go watch it for him!!!

I’d give it 3.5/5 😀

and i think the beard really suits him….. 😉

Oh…and I almost forgot to mention. There’s this moment in the film where Tony Stark aka Iron Man is kidnapped by terrorists in Afghanistan and is held in captivity. The leader of the terrorist organisation wants to speak in Urdu..but comes across to us as if it’s Hindi and the remaining terrorists respond to him Afghani/Arabic. S and I were looking at each other every time this happened.

I am sure it would not have been an expensive affair to get a guy who speaks Arabic or Afghani to play that role. Do these Hollywood people take us to be fools? FUNNY!

Why Oh Why?!

I login to wordpress, check out what my felow bloggers have been upto and then logout. I’ve become so lazy…so lazy that I am watching NDTV Imagine’s version of Ramayan instead of simly changing the channel.

I have decided to take my life under control…and I must have made this decision atleast 100 times before 😀 The weather here is soo crappy! It’s dull, cloudy and to top it all up…it’s also windy! Can it get any worse…oh yes..it can…it aint raining luckily! Weather does have an affect on how you get along with your day to day activities. Apparently, S suffers from SAD aka Seasonal Affective Disorder…but he very well wakes up at 6AM everyday. Probably it’s me who suffers from it and I aint accepting it. Oh how so convinient…blame something or someone for your shortcomings. Now a days there’s a syndrome for everything! You sleep 9 1/2 hours a day…it’s a syndrome…you like wearing black most of the time and that’s another right there 😀 How crazy world has become these days! God save us!

Anyways, since yesterday, I have been listening to two songs continuously. I am not a great fan of Telugu Music. My favourite list starts and ends at Ilayaraja and occasionally Devi Sri Prasad. This is THE maximum extenet I dare to venture…but the two songs I have been listening since yesterday come from Mani Sharma from the movie Chirutha and Pokiri and then I realised I liked quite a few of his songs…like Rovoyi Chandamama starring Nagarjuna and the forgettable Anjala Zaveri.

Here goes

 NjoY!

What I Thought of Jodha-Akbar (The movie of course)

Went to watch JA coupla days ago. I wanted to get myself to writing and updating my blog but my holiday has done me bad…I feel extremely lazy!!! But since S is snoring away to glory and the weather is gloomy….i thought…ok….why not write 😉

Well anyways, I am not going to write another review of the movie ‘cuz most of you would have already read it somewhere. So, I will keep it simple and tell you what I liked and disliked about the movie.

So first go the pros –

Hrithik……Hrithik….Hrithik…. 😀 OMG…how good looking he was…Mind you girls, I am not a great fan of HR, but he was jaw-droppin good lookin in this movie. His acting was not bad either. He is much better in this movie…when compared to Dhoom-2. I read somewhere that Akbar actually had 199 wives, the 200th being Jodhaa…..but if he was as good looking as the actor in the movie…..THEN AKBAR is NOT TO BE WRONGED!!! 😀

Coming to Ash, as Philip rightly mentioned in his blog, I was just glad that she stayed away from all the inappropriate giggling

Music by A R Rahman was fantastic as always. You might not instantly like the songs…but when you watch them on the big screen, the choreography, the sets and the costumes….it looks and sounds amazing!

I don’t know much about direction but to mention some of my favourite scenes in the movie – When Jalaluddin (Akbar) goes to Jodhaa’s place to apologise and get her back to Agra, Jodhaa refuses to return. Akbar requests her and Jodhaa turns a deaf ear. It only reinforces the fact that nobody is spared from the ‘nakhre of women’. Another note-worthy scene is when Jalaluddin sees Jodha’s face for the first time without the ‘Ghoonghat’. He then goes into a trance…like he’s seen the most beautiful thing on Earth. There are other scenes aswell…BUT GO WATCH THE MOVIE!!

Ila Arun and Sonu Sood were a revelation. Infact, I did not realise it was Ila Arun who played Maham Anga until the finishing titles started rolling.

Coming to the Cons –

The movie is way too looooong….222 mins if I am not wrong

I wouldn’t call it a con…but just a piece of advise…Don’t expect it to be like Troy. Ashutosh Gowariker has done a good job in gathering people, horses, elephants etc….but I guess Bollywood does not have the bucks Hollywood does…so has to compromise on flamboyance of the scenes and the sets.

I was also disappointed to see that some of the scenes were similar to that of Troy. For eg., the background score in the beginning when Big B narrates how the Moghuls came to power is similar to that in Troy. I was surprised to see that even A R Rahman has started looking to the West for inspiration 😦

Though  history behind the movie can be debated….we can instead choose to take home positives from the movie. Akbar always wanted a united Hindustan…..a Secular India….which we strive for so hard these days but end up getting hurt very badly. I am not very concerned about AG distorting history to sell his movie…but I saw something good in the movie and I hope everyone will see the same. Afterall, Secularism is a jewel in a beautiful Crown called India…we all have to do our bit to keep it that way.

Well anyways, enough of the serious stuff! My fav song from the movie….here goes…NJOY MAADI 😀
